Live Edge Slabs was founded as a father-and-son business by Brad Kent Sr. and Brad Kent Jr. when they opened in the Tampa Bay area in 2018. Together, they and their team work side by side to bring customers handcrafted live edge tables, counters, islands, desks, and raw slabs that showcase the natural beauty of each piece of wood. Brad Sr. brings decades of woodworking experience to the Tampa Bay Area and takes great pride in mentoring his son not only in the craft, but in building and operating a successful business.
In the early days, the company sourced slabs from Nicaragua, but quickly discovered a major challenge: most available slabs were only 18–24 inches wide, forcing complex joinery that increased labor, slowed production, and limited scalability.
Everything changed when they partnered with a supplier in Costa Rica capable of producing massive one-piece slabs ranging from 36–50 inches wide. This breakthrough transformed the business model eliminating complicated joins and turning production into efficient assembly while preserving each piece’s natural beauty. With the right systems and team, a custom table could be completed in approximately 4–6 man-hours, creating a scalable model combining artisan quality with operational efficiency.
